Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Wayne Warriors vs. Goldsboro Cougars

The Eastern Wayne Warriors will face off against the Goldsboro Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastern Wayne comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Eastern Wayne fell victim to North Johnston and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 34-0.

Meanwhile, Goldsboro never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Faith Christian Academy 8-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Brayden Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over 5.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Goldsboro's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Maddox Bevell was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. Goldsboro is undefeated when Bevell posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bladen Jones, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Goldsboro's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Eastern Wayne, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
