Baseball Recap: Friona Comes Up Short

Friona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 23-4 to the Idalou Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chieftans of the 28-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Owen McGaughy was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season.

Friona's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Idalou, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Friona will take on rival Slaton at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Idalou is set to face off against their familiar foe Muleshoe at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
