Softball Game Preview: Marissa/Coulterville Meteors vs. New Athens Yellow Jackets

For the second straight game, Marissa/Coulterville will face off against New Athens. The Meteors are taking a road trip to face off against the Yellow Jackets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Marissa/Coulterville will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Marissa/Coulterville barely beat New Athens the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Meteors blew past the Yellow Jackets 11-3 on Tuesday. Considering the Meteors have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Paityn Hand and Katlyn Rednour made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Hand didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rednour tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hand has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Hand went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Rednour went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Rednour has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reilly Reid, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Trieb, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Marissa/Coulterville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Athens only posted a batting average of .241.

Marissa/Coulterville's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for New Athens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
