Basketball Recap: Levez Roper and Rodney Beckwith Secure Win for Screven County

Screven County hadn't done well against Portal recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Gamecocks secured a 64-59 W over the Panthers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Leading Screven County to victory were Rodney Beckwith and LeVez Roper. Beckwith dropped a double-double with 26 points and 12 boards, while Roper went 9-for-17 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. Those 26 points gave Beckwith a new career-high. Percy Flowers was another key player, putting up nine points.

Screven County was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They posted seven more assists than Portal's also-impressive total of ten.

Despite the loss, Portal still got an impressive performance from CJ Harden, who shot 40% from the field to rack up 22 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was David Thomas, who posted ten points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Screven County's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Portal, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Screven County will take on Statesboro at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Portal, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bryan County at 7:30 p.m. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Redskins have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
