Basketball Game Preview: Ocean City Raiders vs. Mainland Regional Mustangs

Ocean City is 2-8 against Mainland Regional since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Ocean City Raiders will head out on the road to take on the Mainland Regional Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Ocean City is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since January 3rd on Saturday. They fell just short of Haddon Heights by a score of 51-48. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, Ocean City saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Naomi Nnewihe, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 17 points and eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Thanks to that strong game, Nnewihe now owns an excellent 45.3% field goal percentage. Scarlett Fletcher was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Ocean City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mainland Regional was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Thursday as they fell 43-38 to Ocean City.

Mainland Regional dropped their record down to 7-14 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Ocean City, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.

Ocean City didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mainland Regional in their previous matchup last Thursday, but they still walked away with a 43-38 victory. Will Ocean City repeat their success, or does Mainland Regional have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
