Baseball Game Preview: Bloomfield Cardinals vs. Shakamak Lakers

Bloomfield hasn't had much luck against Shakamak recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cardinals will head out to challenge the Lakers at 5:30 p.m. Bloomfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Bloomfield nor Northeast Dubois made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Cardinals fell just short of the Jeeps by a score of 3-2. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dillon Warnick spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Bloomfield's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Bloomfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Yake, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Meanwhile, Shakamak hadn't done well against Linton-Stockton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Lakers put the hurt on the Miners with a sharp 9-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lakers.

Shakamak now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Bloomfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.

Bloomfield came up short against Shakamak in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
