Basketball Game Preview: Milford Eagles vs. Sutton Mustangs

The Milford Eagles will take on the Sutton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sutton will be up against a hot Milford team: the squad just extended their winning streak to eight. Milford blew past Beatrice 58-35 on Thursday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Orangemen are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Sutton on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Fairbury out of the water with a 69-33 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Mustangs had established a 26 point advantage.

Milford's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Sutton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.

Milford barely slipped by Sutton in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 42-41. Will Milford repeat their success, or does Sutton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
