Basketball Recap: O'Connell Boilermakers vs. Marshall Phoenix
O'Connell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 52-42 to the Marshall Phoenix. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Boilermakers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 73-43 back in December of 2024.
Marshall's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaelil Travis led the charge by putting up eight points along with five rebounds and five steals. Travis is becoming a predictor of Marshall's success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Martel Peters was another key player, posting ten points in addition to six steals and five boards.
O'Connell's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Marshall, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-5.
O'Connell will challenge City Arts and Leadership Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Marshall has already played their next contest (against Lycee Francais), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
