Baseball Recap: Mercer County Golden Eagles vs. Fulton Steamers

Mercer County fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Fulton on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Steamers by a score of 15-14. The Golden Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Steamers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Payton Sedam and Tannen Whitehall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Sedam scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances, while Whitehall scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kale Breeden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Mercer County's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6. As for Fulton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season.

Mercer County will host Rockridge at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fulton, they will head out to face off against Galena at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
