Baseball Recap: Salesian Eagles vs. Cardinal Hayes Cardinals
Salesian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 10-7 to the Cardinal Hayes Cardinals. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 9-3 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Salesian got a good showing from Jonas Rivera, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs Rivera has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, John Avellino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kristopher Paredez, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Salesian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Cardinal Hayes, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-17.
Looking ahead, Salesian will venture away from home to face off against Mt. St. Michael Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cardinal Hayes does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
