Basketball Game Preview: Riverton Silverwolves vs. Mountain Ridge Sentinels

Two dominant guards in Faythe Stauffer and Kya Newton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Riverton Silverwolves will face off against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Mountain Ridge heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Riverton took over last week. Riverton pulled ahead with a 43-42 photo finish over Copper Hills on Tuesday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Silverwolves' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Grizzlies are ranked third).

Corner Canyon typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Mountain Ridge proved too difficult a challenge. They escaped with a win against the Chargers by the margin of a single free throw, 60-59. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sentinels.

Riverton has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Mountain Ridge, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Riverton ended up a good deal behind Mountain Ridge in their previous meeting back in January, losing 56-40. Can Riverton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
