Basketball Recap: Academic Magnet Comes Up Short

Academic Magnet was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Andrews Yellowjackets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raptors have suffered since February 14, 2024.

Despite the loss, Academic Magnet still got an impressive performance from Lindsey Griffin, who posted 21 points and eight boards. Those 21 points gave Griffin a new career-high. Hayden Moody was another key player, putting up four points and 17 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Academic Magnet smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests.

Andrews found their leader in freshman Makayla Singleton, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Andrews is 2-1 when Singleton posts ten or more rebounds, but 1-21 otherwise. Jade Wallace also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Academic Magnet's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Andrews, their win ended a 17-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-22.

As of now, neither Academic Magnet nor Andrews have any future games scheduled.
