Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes a Loss

Mt. Vernon had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it six. They fell 5-0 to the Indianapolis Lutheran Saints. The Marauders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Saints apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ameila Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

As for Indianapolis Lutheran, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

On Indianapolis Lutheran's side, their victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leyla Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mt. Vernon beat the Saints by a score of 4-3 later that day.
