Flag Football Recap: Valley Center Falls Despite Big Games from Jasmina Guachino and Mykayla Degen

Valley Center was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 24-19 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns. If the Jaguars were looking for revenge after losing 36-12 to the Longhorns when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Valley Center had strong showings from Mykayla Degen, who rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown, and Jasmina Guachino, who picked up 36 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Degen didn't just play on offense: she also made five total tackles and defended one pass.

Valley Center's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.

Valley Center wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 25-6 loss against Rancho Bernardo on the 24th. As for Rancho Buena Vista, they will face off against Escondido at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
