Softball Game Preview: Grant Cougars vs. Montgomery Tigers

The Grant Cougars will face off against the Montgomery Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Grant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Grant's offense. They fell just short of Jena by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Giants: they've now lost three in a row.

Peyton Kirtland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Montgomery won against Avoyelles on Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 17-9 margin over Avoyelles Charter. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The win was the third in a row for Montgomery, bringing their record up to 17-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Grant, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.

Grant took their win against Montgomery when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 15-4 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
