Softball Game Preview: Liberty Hurricanes vs. Pleasant Valley Bears

Liberty is a perfect 3-0 against Pleasant Valley since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Liberty will host Pleasant Valley at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.

Liberty is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They never let Bethlehem Catholic get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Valley hadn't done well against Palmerton recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Pleasant Valley was the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over Palmerton. Considering the Bears have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kailyn Getz was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Pleasant Valley let Katie Van Schoyck and Jovie Valenzuela run wild. Van Schoyck scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Valenzuela scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Van Schoyck a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie Abbatiello, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Liberty came out on top in a nail-biter against Pleasant Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does Liberty have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pleasant Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
