Football Recap: Waskom's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After flying high against Harleton last Friday, Waskom came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell 45-34 to the Beckville Bearcats on Friday. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Beckville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rudy Watts, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 38 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave Watts a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Braxton Bullock was another key passer, throwing for 267 yards and a pair of TDs.

Waskom's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Beckville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Waskom and Beckville will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time Waskom sees the field they'll take on Big Sandy at 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Beckville, their break will end when they face Hawkins at 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
