Basketball Recap: Beloit Victorious

Beloit won the last time they faced Smith Center and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Beloit Trojans skirted past the Smith Center Redmen 38-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since January 14th.

Beloit had a senior duo take command as Addison Budke dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds and Cassandra Thompson dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Thompson has become a key player for Beloit: the team is 8-4 when she posts at least eight boards, but 3-4 otherwise.

Beloit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Smith Center's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Leah Mckelvey, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds, and Kayln Ifland, who posted ten points along with five boards and three steals. That's the most points Mckelvey has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Weltmer, who scored seven points and six rebounds.

Beloit's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Smith Center, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-14.

Beloit wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-38 victory against Lakin on the 27th. As for Smith Center, they will take on Sylvan-Lucas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
