Baseball Recap: Port Jervis' Undefeated Season over After Four Games

Port Jervis fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Valley Central on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 7-6. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Kevin Mesnick put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Shaun Misczuk made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 4-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Port Jervis fell to 3-1. As for Valley Central, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Jervis will challenge Goshen Central at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Gladiators will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Valley Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kingston at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
