Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Ash Fork/Seligman

Ash Fork/Seligman's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They blew past the Joseph City Wildcats 16-5. Considering the Spartans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jesus Ayala and Jhovanny Vazquez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ayala pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Vazquez pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Ayala posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Ayala got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Vazquez got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Vazquez has become a key player for Ash Fork/Seligman: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ash Fork/Seligman got a massive performance out of Josue Tellez, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Tellez is becoming a predictor of the Spartans' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Miclo Ayala, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Ash Fork/Seligman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They are 6-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ash Fork/Seligman pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Joseph City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Coming up, Ash Fork/Seligman will welcome Mogollon at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. Joseph City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
