Basketball Game Preview: First Baptist Christian Warriors vs. Northland Christian Cougars

The First Baptist Christian Warriors will face off against the Northland Christian Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

First Baptist Christian picked up another tournament win back in December of 2024. They walked away with a 62-52 victory over Bay Area Christian. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 589th, while the Broncos are ranked 1313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Micah Shrum continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 for 15 on his way to 20 points. His afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Northland Christian posted their closest win since November 16, 2024 on Saturday. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 62-60 victory over St. Thomas Episcopal. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Northland Christian's win came from a few key players First Baptist Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sion Cleveland, who posted 16 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kameron McKnight, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.

Northland Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Northland Christian's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for First Baptist Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Everything came up roses for First Baptist Christian against Northland Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 74-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for First Baptist Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
