Basketball Recap: Fishers Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

On Saturday, the Fishers Tigers strolled past the Gibson Southern Titans with points to spare, taking the game 60-45. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Titans are ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fishers found their leader in freshman Riley Schellhammer, who went 8 of 15 en route to 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Scheu, who posted nine points along with eight boards and five assists.

Gibson Southern lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gabby Spink, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Spink is becoming a predictor of Gibson Southern's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 4-2 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). Paige Schnaus was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Fishers has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Gibson Southern, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.

Fishers will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Noblesville at 7:30 p.m. Noblesville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season. As for Gibson Southern, they will welcome Evansville Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gibson Southern also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 53 points per game.
