Baseball Recap: Shelbyville Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Shelbyville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against the Yorktown Tigers by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Aiden Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Smith was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grantland Fitzgerald, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Gavin Reed was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Shelbyville's record now sits at 9-7. As for Yorktown, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-8 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Shelbyville beat the Tigers by a score of 12-1 on Wednesday.
