Football Recap: Lockney Longhorns vs. West Texas Comanches
Lockney couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 30-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Texas Comanches. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comanches apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.
Lockney lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dyllan Thiebaud, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also threw for 114 yards and a touchdown. Thiebaud got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible60 yards. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Daniel Alvarado, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Lockney wouldn't let West Texas keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Lockney can thank Dahlen Silva and Alvarado for forcing both of them. Alvarado's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making three total tackles.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lockney will challenge Floydada at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Texas, they will take on Shamrock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
