Capistrano Valley has gone 9-1 against San Clemente recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tritons at 4:00 p.m. Neither Capistrano Valley nor San Clemente posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Capistrano Valley is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering JSerra Catholic just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 2-1.
Cassidy Stinnett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Capistrano Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicole Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, San Clemente came up short against California on Saturday, falling 7-1.
Luca Cifuentes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero hits, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2025.
Capistrano Valley's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for San Clemente, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Capistrano Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like San Clemente struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Capistrano Valley got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2024 against San Clemente by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Tritons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
