Softball Recap: River Ridge/Scales Mound's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

River Ridge/Scales Mound hadn't done well against Eastland recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 6-1. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 11-1 win the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Elizabeth Rife was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Winter, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Laiken Haas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

River Ridge/Scales Mound moved to 8-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Eastland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. River Ridge/Scales Mound will square off against Pecatonica at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Eastland, they will take on Morrison at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
