Softball Recap: Muncy Indians vs. Sullivan County Griffins
Muncy had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 7-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Sullivan County Griffins, falling 10-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Griffins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 back in April.
Taylor Shannon was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run. Savannah Thompson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.
As for Sullivan County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.
On Sullivan County's side, Emilia Viveiros was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Viveiros was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mariah Hallabuk, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Amber Kelly, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Muncy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sullivan County, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-3 defeat against Sayre on the 17th.
