Baseball Game Preview: Aragon Dons vs. Woodside Wildcats

The Aragon Dons will square off against the Woodside Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aragon's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Woodside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Aragon's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Hillsdale hitters got past them. The Dons came up short against the Fighting Knights on Saturday, falling 12-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Dons have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Mason Miller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aragon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adi Shanker, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Woodside fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Sacred Heart Prep last Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gators by a score of 3-2. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Junior Cattaneo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.

Woodside now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Aragon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Everything went Aragon's way against Woodside when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Aragon made off with an 8-1 victory. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
