Basketball Recap: Abigail Meaney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fuquay - Varina over Corinth Holders

Fuquay - Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 44-35 to the Corinth Holders Pirates. The Bengals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Several Bengals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abigail Meaney, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Sophia Duracinsky, who had 11 points.

Even though they lost, Fuquay - Varina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corinth Holders to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jada Vanderhorst, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chassie Watson, who put up eight points and seven rebounds.

Fuquay - Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Corinth Holders, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Fuquay - Varina didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-16 loss against Willow Spring on the 13th. As for Corinth Holders, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-13 victory against Southern Nash on the 13th.
