For the first time this season, Calhoun Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. We've got a battle between Cougars coming up. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (they have three straight victories, Lee Academy has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Lee Academy's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Calhoun Academy hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Calhoun Academy blew past North Sunflower Academy 12-0 on Friday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
Carsen Stegall was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Calhoun Academy: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most three hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Stegall was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Denton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Ethan Parker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Lee Academy came up short against Westside last Friday and fell 12-8.
Slade Oxner was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. TJ Davis was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Calhoun Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Lee Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Lee Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Calhoun Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. It's a different story for Lee Academy, though, as they've only averaged .151. Will they be able to contain Calhoun Academy's hitters?
Calhoun Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Lee Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
