League recap: Cardinal Newman climbing state rankings after big week

Cardinal Newman went from 227 to 197 in the California state rankings since last week after going 1-1 in the past seven days.

The Cardinals currently sit at the top of North Bay with a mark of 21-7 overall and 13-1 in the league. Maria Carrillo is two games back and in second place with an 11-3 league record.

Cardinal Newman boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, the Cardinals have allowed just 165 hits, while striking out 181 batters. Mark Peterson leads the Cardinals with 64 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched.
