Basketball Recap: North Gem Comes Up Short

North Gem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-28 heartbreaker at the hands of the Taylor's Crossing Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cowboys this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 33-23 back in December of 2024.

Taylor's Crossing found their leader in freshman Alexis Ellis, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Ellis also grabbed eight steals, which is notable because Taylor's Crossing is 4-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hallee Gorton, who posted 16 points and five boards.

North Gem's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Taylor's Crossing, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Gem will take on Watersprings at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Gem is facing Watersprings at the right time seeing as Watersprings is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Taylor's Crossing, they will face off against Rockland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
