Basketball Game Preview: Firebaugh Falcons vs. Middle College Cougars

Having just played yesterday, the Firebaugh Falcons will get right back to it and host the Middle College Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Friday, Firebaugh didn't have quite enough to beat Norwalk and fell 64-62.

Meanwhile, Middle College was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Mayfair, falling 96-32. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1200th, while the Monsoons are ranked 120th).

Despite the loss, Middle College saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Haidyn Lakey went 7 of 11 en route to 17 points along with eight boards and five assists. That was a full 53.1% of Middle College's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Middle College's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Firebaugh, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-3.
