Softball Recap: Carrboro Continues Road Dominance on Friday

While Carrboro didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Granville Central Panthers 14-1 on Friday. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Granville Central's batters probably weren't too happy with Teagan Fichter, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up a single walk). Fichter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Carrboro got a massive performance out of Vivian Martin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was Martin's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jill Schroeder, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Martin wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Carrboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.

Carrboro pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Granville Central, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carrboro will challenge Riverside-Durham at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Carrboro's pitchers better be ready for this one: Riverside-Durham has averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Granville Central, they will square off against South Granville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
