Softball Recap: Russell Gets the Win

Russell lost to Fleming County back in March of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Red Devils walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Panthers.

Karson Honaker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Russell let Gabby Oborne and Hadley Cook run wild. Oborne went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Cook went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Oborne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Hall, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Russell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Russell's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Fleming County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell will venture away from home to take on Lewis County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Fleming County, they will head out on the road to square off against Bracken County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Polar Bears will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
