Football Recap: Guthrie Piles Up the Points Against Lawton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Guthrie). They claimed a resounding 65-20 win over the Lawton Wolverines. With the Bluejays ahead 58-14 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Daelon Rice continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 258 yards and six touchdowns on only 15 passes. Those 258 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Zane Thomas helped Rice out on the ground, rushing for 96 yards and one TD on only six carries.

Guthrie was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in nine consecutive contests.

Guthrie didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Clayton Carey and Kellen Hirzel.

Guthrie's record now sits at 8-2. As for Lawton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Guthrie will take on Bishop McGuinness at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Irish's defense has only allowed 14.7 points per game this season, so the Bluejays' offense will have their work cut out for them. Lawton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
