Football Recap: Laguna Acoma Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Derek Victorino Jr. and Ekahi Tiller

Football Recap: Laguna Acoma Hawks vs. McCurdy Bobcats

Laguna Acoma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 41-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McCurdy Bobcats. The Hawks lost against the Bobcats in their previous head to head back in October of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-14 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Laguna Acoma had strong showings from Ekahi Tiller, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and Derek Victorino Jr., who rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Tiller also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks, forcing a fumble, and making six total tackles. Cayden Chino was in the mix too, providing Laguna Acoma with a touchdown.

Laguna Acoma is facing Newcomb at the right time seeing as Newcomb is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for McCurdy, they will square off against Cuba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cuba will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
