Basketball Recap: Levi Gray's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maryville Christian over Father Mcgivney Catholic

Maryville Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 38-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Griffins this season, with their most recent defeat being a 45-35 loss back in January.

Maryville Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Gray, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards. Maryville Christian is 4-1 when Gray posts eight or more rebounds, but 3-18 otherwise. Dillon Paul was another key player, going 5-for-8 en route to 12 points.

Among those leading the charge was Chase Jansen, who posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was David Carroll, who put up eight points.

Maryville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 7-19. As for Father McGivney Catholic, their record now sits at 13-15.

Looking ahead, Maryville Christian will welcome Westfair Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Westfair Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
