Softball Recap: Elk Grove Extends Winning Streak to Three

While Elk Grove's victory against Franklin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Thundering Herd sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Thundering Herd sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

The team relied heavily on Izianah Castillo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Jadyn Magnuson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Castillo wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Elk Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Thundering Herd are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Elk Grove's record is now 8-6. As for Franklin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Elk Grove will challenge rival Monterey Trail at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Thundering Herd 4, the Mustangs 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Franklin is set to square off against their familiar foe Laguna Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
