1A Southern Peaks recap September 24, 2013
Jareb Aziz of Centauri ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Southern Peaks this season against Lake County last week. Aziz scampered for 72 yards on the play and finished with 128 on the day as his team beat the Panthers.
Center added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Crowley County, 22-15. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Vikings.
Monte Vista's dynamic duo of Michael Sanchez and Daniel Borunda proved to be unstoppable against Hotchkiss, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sanchez threw for 188 yards and 4 touchdowns and Borunda had 112 yards receiving. Presley Garcia helped Monte Vista's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 22 yards.
The Pirates' dynamic duo of Sanchez and Borunda proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Adam Herrera was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 123 yards on 6 carries as Ignacio fell to Hotchkiss. Teammate Miguel Perez added to the ground attack by rushing for 39 yards.
Borunda was the best receiver in 1A Southern Peaks this week as Manny Wassinger's team lost to Zac Lemon's team.
Sanchez put up the best numbers in passing as the Pirates lost to the Bulldogs.
On the heels of KC Jarvies and Jason Buhr, Centauri has had great success on offense. Jarvies leads the league in passing with 665 yards, while Buhr has rushed for 375 yards this season. Monte Vista's Borunda leads the league in receiving yards with 304 on 18 catches.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Pirates' Borunda goes up against the Bobcats' Clayton Jefferson.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Kyle Forster's team takes on Center. The Falcons are in fourth place, while Lee Flood's team is in first place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Centauri takes on the Vikings. The Falcons have allowed 50 points this season, while Center has given up 50. Centauri allowed 16 points last week as it topped Lake County.
The Vikings moved up to 121 from 173 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Center climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Chargers 22-15.
