Basketball Game Preview: Benton Central Bison vs. Northwestern Tigers

The Benton Central Bison will square off against the Northwestern Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Last Tuesday, Benton Central came up short against Rensselaer Central and fell 51-41. While losing is never fun, the Bison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Bombers are ranked 16th).

Meanwhile, Northwestern had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Eastern on Tuesday as Northwestern made off with a 48-24 victory.

Benton Central better focus on containing Anna Bishir and Brooklynn Conwell as the pair were huge in Northwestern's win. Bishir almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards, while Conwell posted 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Bishir a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Ava Schultz, who put up two points and 12 rebounds.

Northwestern's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Benton Central, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.

Everything came up roses for Benton Central against Northwestern when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 63-29 victory. Does Benton Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northwestern turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
