Baseball Recap: Hillman Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Francis, Hillman was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Onaway Cardinals by a score of 10-6. Considering the Tigers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jt Witzke and Evan Crane made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Witzke struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Crane struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Witzke has posted since back in April. At the plate, Witzke got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Crane got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Crane has become a key player for Hillman: the team is 11-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Eddie Pru was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Hillman's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 3-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Schulze, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Hillman's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Onaway, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

As of now, neither Hillman nor Onaway have any future games scheduled.
