Baseball Recap: Yerba Buena Aztec Warriors vs. Mt. Pleasant Cardinals
Yerba Buena extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mt. Pleasant Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, with their most recent loss being a 18-1 defeat back in March.
As for Mt. Pleasant, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.
For Mt. Pleasant's part, Isaiah Arroyo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Arroyo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nate Ortiz and Isaiah Pena did most of the damage at the plate: Ortiz got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Pena went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI. That's the most RBI Pena has posted since back in March. Santiago Ramirez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
