Football Game Preview: Durant Lions vs. Shawnee Wolves

The Durant Lions will square off against the Shawnee Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shawnee took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Durant, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Durant didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Edison, but they still walked away with a 14-8 win. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Shawnee played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Coweta, falling 38-14. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Tigers are ranked 26th).

Durant will have to keep a close watch on Tate McClendon and Kedarrius Palmer, a pair of players who had a big impact on Shawnee's prior game. McClendon rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, while Palmer picked up 94 receiving yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, McClendon is now averaging an impressive 100.3 rushing yards per game.

Even if they lost, Shawnee's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Riley Storie. Those three sacks set a new season-high mark for him.

Shawnee's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3. As for Durant, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
