Softball Game Preview: Woodside Wolverines vs. Warwick Raiders

For the second straight game, Woodside will face off against Warwick. The Wolverines will host the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodside has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight losses, while Warwick will come in with five straight victories.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Woodside and Warwick, and Warwick kept the tradition alive. The Wolverines came up short against the Raiders on Tuesday, falling 16-8.

For Warwick's part, Nataleigh Gabriel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Gabriel a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Warwick let Althenia Seisay and Jaylynn Parish run wild. Seisay went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Parish got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Seisay a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yanaiya Burke, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Woodside's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Warwick, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Woodside's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Wolverines have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Warwick, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Woodside continue to outrun the ball?
