Baseball Recap: Lutheran's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Ten

Lutheran barely beat Oregon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Crusaders put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 11-4 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Crusaders sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.

Jaxson Schwaneneck made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Lutheran let Jake Guse and Nate Ling run wild. Guse went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Ling went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Guse a new career-high. Luke Carlson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Lutheran kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lutheran pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Oregon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Oregon will square off against North Boone at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Lutheran will be paying especially close attention to Oregon's matchup: after Oregon faces off against North Boone, they'll take on Lutheran again at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
