Basketball Recap: Mcewen's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

It was a good run, but McEwen unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 63-38 to the Wayne County Wildcats. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why McEwen lost, don't look at Laila Downs. Despite the final result, she posted 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Downs is crushing it when it comes to points: she's scored at least 17 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Shana Bohanon, who had nine points and four steals.

McEwen's loss dropped their record down to 26-5. As for Wayne County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

McEwen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-37 defeat against Moore County on the 8th. As for Wayne County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-40 loss against Richland on the 8th.
