Football Recap: Hillcrest Extends Winning Streak to Two

Hillcrest won the last time they faced Easley and Jackson Free did his part to make sure it happened again. The Rams really took it to the Green Wave for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-20 victory thanks in part to Free, who threw for 190 yards and a pair of TDs on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 65 yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Hillcrest's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

Jaylen Samuel was another key player, rushing for 80 yards and one touchdown. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 59 yards.

Several Green Wave players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josiah Coleman, who threw for 218 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 38 yards and one score. A healthy portion of Coleman's aerial production (111 yards to be exact) went to Matthew Hillstock, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Hillcrest and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 33 points. As for Easley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Hillcrest is set to challenge their familiar foe Greenville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Free and Kiishawn Farrow. Meanwhile, Easley will square off against rival T.L. Hanna at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,053 yards in their previous games.
