Baseball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Wiley

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Eads, Wiley was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Springfield Longhorns. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Grant Mauch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up six earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Dixie Bitner was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Devonte Pizarro, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Wiley pushed their record up to 3-9-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
