Basketball Game Preview: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Charlotte Catholic Cougars

Marvin Ridge hasn't had much luck against Charlotte Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Marvin Ridge Mavericks will be playing at home against the Charlotte Catholic Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Marvin Ridge is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Porter Ridge: they outscored them in every quarter. Marvin Ridge took down Porter Ridge 67-50 last Tuesday.

Henry Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Those 24 points gave him a new career-high. Brady Dunn was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 15 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Catholic entered their tilt with East Mecklenburg on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 79-54 win. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Marvin Ridge better focus on containing King Rhodes and Chris Eagan as the pair were huge in Charlotte Catholic's win. Rhodes went 7 for 15 on his way to 16 points and seven boards, while Eagan almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Eagan's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Noch, who posted eight points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Charlotte Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Marvin Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Charlotte Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 14-3.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Marvin Ridge hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.2 points per game. However, it's not like Charlotte Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 70.5 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Marvin Ridge ended up a good deal behind Charlotte Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2021, losing 73-59. Can Marvin Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
